Shamcey Supsup: Beauty and Brains for the Glory of God

When I first saw Shamcey Supsup, I was instantly struck by her beauty. Then I soon found out that she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines and was a topnotcher at the architecture boards. Supsup had the beauty and the brains; she was lovely!

But what made her the loveliest is her answer at the Miss Universe 2011 pageant’s question and answer portion. Judge Vivica A. Fox asked her this question: “Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person that you love? Why or why not?”

Her answer: “If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person I love is God, who created me. I have my faith and my principles, and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God, too.”

Her answer blew my mind away! She would not marry that person, who obviously doesn’t hold on to the same religious beliefs and who ultimately doesn’t worship the one and true God. She would rather forsake that person than forsake Jesus. The first person she loves is God. She is a woman of God!

Supsup did not win the crown from the Miss Universe (she only won 3rd runner up), but she’ll someday receive a crown from the God of the universe—the crown the matters most.

May the Lord raise more women like her.
