Pastor in Cagayan De Oro Murdered
As I was walking home, I passed by a news stand and some of the tabloids caught my attention. In one tabloid, the headline says, “ANTI-‘JESUS CHRIST’ KILLS PASTOR, GF!”
The pastor, identified Teodoro Badilla, 62, was the pastor of the Jesus Christ is the Answer Church in Cagayan De Oro. Margarita Chan, who was his girlfriend (other reports say wife, while others live-in partner; I remain skeptical on this), was also murdered. The suspect was a neighbor of the pastor and was believed to have a mental illness. When interrogated, the murderer claimed that the couple had insulted his religion. The suspect is believed to be a Catholic.
I don’t have any idea on the pastor’s moral background, doctrinal beliefs, and denominational affiliation. Nevertheless, those who are faithful to the faith and to the gospel (and I hope the murdered pastor was) will eventually find themselves persecuted. Some will even be martyred. But the Bible promises the following:
11“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on [Jesus’] account 12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:11-12, emphases added)
18“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me [Jesus] before it hated you. 19If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. (John 15:18-20, emphasis added)
