The Supremacy of God Above All Things: The Reason for Enjoying Him Forever
In my blog Called to Enjoy Christ, I have written that that man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, that a Psalm invites us to delight in Him, that God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.
But what exactly are the reasons why we can enjoy God forever? I quoted verses from the Scripture and I hope you’ll be convinced.
In God, there is fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore:
11You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)
God is worth giving up absolutely everything:
44“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. (Matthew 13:44-46)
Jesus is the Living Water:
13…Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. (John 4:13-14)
Jesus is the Bread of Life:
35Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. (John 6:35)
God alone is truly and infinitely satisfying. In Him, there are joy and pleasures forevermore. He is the Treasure, the Pearl of the Great Price, the Living Water, and the Bread of Life. He is worth giving up everything, including the pleasurable sins of this life. He is supreme above all things. This is the reason we can enjoy Him forever.
