KFC Double Down and Satisfaction
Once again, my hands are down to KFC’s brilliance and ingenuity. Towards the end of the year 2010, the American food chain released the Double Down. It is for me one of the best products of KFC. It has two chicken fillets and sandwiched in-between are bacon, cheese, and dressing. What a glorious sandwich!
I can still vividly remember my first Double Down. Each bite was heavenly. I savored the moment. Then in a few minutes time, it was gone. I was satisfied temporarily. Clearly, the moment was short-lived. I began to crave. But that was just it.
Temporary. Short-lived. Are these the words that define the kind of satisfaction we pursue in this life? I’m afraid it’s true for everyone. Young people find satisfaction in parties, alcohol, and drugs. Single men and women find it in sexually immoral relations. Married men and women find it in adulterous schemes. Workaholics find it in their career. Businessmen find it in their investments. Old people look forward to their retirement, settle in their rest houses, and waste their lives until the end of their days. So on and so forth. Borrowing from the words of Solomon, I say, “Meaningless!”
So where do we find true and lasting satisfaction? There is one answer: God! The Bible tells to us to “delight [ourselves] in the LORD” (Psalm 37:4a), in whose presence “there is fullness of joy” and whose right hand “there are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11). We must turn to Jesus, the living water (see John 4:1-30) and the bread of life (John 6:35). In Him, we will not thirst or hunger; we will be forever satisfied!
We don’t need to look elsewhere for satisfaction. Infinite joy is already offered to us by God. Let’s turn away from false and short-lived satisfaction and start living for the true and enduring (or better yet, eternal) ones found in the Lord Jesus Christ.
By the way, I will be posting a series of blogs of the same topic soon. So keep in touch.
