A Tale of Two Sons by John MacArthur
Luke 15 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. And John MacArthur’s A Tale of Two Sons helped me understand it more. This book is a rich and intensive study of the chapter. MacArthur uses cultural, biblical, and sometimes historical references to explain the parable of the prodigal son. He makes a careful, word-for-word analysis of the parable. The vastness of MacArthur’s observation of the text will make you feel lost.
This book allowed me to further grasp the gravity of the prodigal’s sin, the depth of the father’s love, and the ugliness of the elder brother’s character. I have come to appreciate the father, the central character of the parable and the representation of Christ.
This is one of the best Christian books I have read. It’s definitely a must read!
